Growing up in Gloucester

I am one of seven and we were all born in High Orchard Street (Gloucester) alongside the docks. Our grandfather and father worked all their lives on the barges, my eldest brother worked on the Mayflower Tug.

The docks were our playground.  I did many trips up and down both the canal and the River.

I spent my first year after leaving school working for the GWR in Gloucester docks waiting for a vacancy on the tugs.
