Christmas Puddings
A gift for Sir Lionel's tenants
Donated by Tony Ashby
This recipe for Christmas pudding is found in the recipe book of Eleanor (Nelly) Ashby, grandmother of Jean and Tony Ashby who lived at Lodge Farm, Fretherne at the turn of the twentieth century.
It is headed 'Receipt for the Christmas Charity Puddings'. These puddings were made for Sir Lionel Darrell to give to his tenants. Tony believes that each had a pound of beef and a pound of Christmas pudding. 69 puddings were made from the recipe at a cost of £4 19s 1d (£4.95). Milk and eggs are not included in the cost, these would have been provided by Lodge Farm.
