Farmhouse Recipes
Dating from the early twentieth century
Donated by Tony Ashby
Eleanor (Nelly) Ashby, grandmother of Jean and Tony Ashby lived at Lodge Farm, Fretherne at the turn of the twentieth century and kept a recipe book, which is available here in the pdf file.
There is a recipe for Christmas pudding. It is headed 'Receipt for the Christmas Charity Puddings'. These puddings were made for Sir Lionel Darrell to give to his tenants. Tony believes that each had a pound of beef and a pound of Christmas pudding. 69 puddings were made from the recipe at a cost of £4 19s 1d (£4.95). Milk and eggs are not included in the cost, these would have been provided by Lodge Farm.
