What is the Junction Heritage Project?
Background to the website
By Iris Capps
Saul Junction, Gloucestershire
The project came into existence in 2003, when British Waterways and the Cotswold Canals Trust invited local residents in the vicinity of the Heritage Centre, Saul Junction, Gloucestershire, to form a heritage group focused on the parishes that are linked by the waterways that meet at Saul Junction, (see map).
Having visited a number of museums and taken the advice of staff at Gloucestershire Archives, the decision was taken to form an electronic archive of memories, memorabilia and photographs and to make this available to all via the Internet. This approach has a number of advantages as it does not require a building for storage, and therefore, there is no limit to the size of the archive and access is world wide and available 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
We are grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund which granted funding with which we bought the necessary hardware and software and web hosting and other equipment to enable us to set up the website.
