Richard Owen Cambridge owned Whitminster House from c 1725/6 following the death of his father.  He was a minor poet and an essayist and it was during his time at Whitminster House that he wrote Scribleriad his most considerable poem.  He also carried out certain mechanical ideas including the construction of a double-hulled boat.  It was Richard Owen Cambridge who straightened the Frome in anticipation of the visit of The Prince and Princess of Wales in boats on the Frome and the River Severn.
